UgCERT Launches 2026 Cybersecurity Training And Drill To Boost Digital Security Preparedness
The Uganda Computer Emergency Response Team (UgCERT) has launched the 2026 Operator Cybersecurity Technical Training and Drill, bringing together key players in the communications sector to strengthen the country’s response to cyber threats. The event, supported by the Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams (FIRST), is being held at UCC House under the theme “Cyber Quest: Learn, Prepare, Protect.” The initiative marks the 7th Operator Cybersecurity Technical Training and the 6th Cybersecurity Drill organised to enhance cybersecurity awareness and preparedness.
The training brings together communications-sector operators for practical learning sessions and simulated cyberattack exercises. Through these activities, participants are expected to improve their ability to identify security risks, respond to incidents, and strengthen existing cybersecurity procedures.Opening the engagement, UCC Director of ICT and Research Eng. Christine Mugimba, representing the UCC Executive Director, stressed the importance of continuous investment in skilled personnel, effective processes, and modern technologies to protect critical communications infrastructure.
She noted that the safety and reliability of digital communication services depend on strong cybersecurity measures, especially as organisations and citizens increasingly rely on technology in their daily activities. The programme also features discussions on Artificial Intelligence and its application in cybersecurity, giving participants an opportunity to explore emerging technologies and prepare for new challenges in the rapidly changing digital security environment.
