URA Trains Buliisa Local Government Officials On Tax Compliance And IFMS Management
The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) Public Sector Office has engaged Buliisa District Local Government officials, calling for improved tax compliance and proper management of government financial processes.
During the stakeholder engagement held in Buliisa, URA officials encouraged local government leaders to ensure accurate tax declarations, timely submission of tax returns, prompt payment of tax obligations, and correct utilisation of the Integrated Financial Management System (IFMS).
Sandra Namatovu, Supervisor of the Public Sector Office – Local Government, said some errors made during payment initiation on IFMS affect proper tax processing. She urged officials responsible for financial transactions to pay attention when selecting payment categories and tax types.
Namatovu explained that some local governments mistakenly select wrong tax options during transactions, citing cases where Customs dues or Other Non-Tax Revenues (ONTRs), including Local Service Tax, are incorrectly initiated as PAYE (Pay As You Earn), Withholding Tax, or other URA-related taxes.
She advised accountants, procurement officers, Human Resource officers, and other responsible officials to improve accuracy when handling financial transactions to promote compliance and avoid unnecessary errors.
The engagement brought together officials from Buliisa District Local Government, divisions, and sub-counties, including Chief Administrative Officers (CAOs) and other stakeholders. URA said such engagements are aimed at strengthening collaboration with public institutions and improving accountability in tax administration.
