The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) is undertaking stormwater drainage works around Kadiba Stadium as preparations intensify for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).The works are part of wider efforts to prepare facilities that will support Uganda’s hosting of the continental tournament alongside Kenya and Tanzania. The tournament is scheduled to begin on June 19, 2027.Officials recently inspected the site to assess progress on the drainage works being carried out around the stadium, with KCCA working alongside the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs and other stakeholders.

The inspection comes as preparations continue to ensure that Kadiba is ready to serve its planned role during AFCON 2027. The facility has been identified among Uganda’s training facilities for the tournament.FUFA formally handed over FUFA Stadium Kadiba to the National Council of Sports in August 2026 for further redevelopment ahead of the tournament. The planned upgrades include work on the playing surface, floodlights and drainage. The drainage component is particularly important in supporting the functionality of the facility and ensuring that stormwater is effectively managed around the stadium as other improvement works progress.

Kadiba has already served as a football training facility, including during the recently concluded African Nations Championship, and is now being further upgraded for its expected role in AFCON 2027.With Uganda’s preparations entering a crucial phase, KCCA and other government agencies are continuing to work on supporting infrastructure around the selected facilities as the country moves closer to hosting the continental football showpiece.
