URSB Ready For Independence Marathon 2026 As #SaveAMother Campaign Takes Centre Stage
The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) is ready for the Independence Marathon 2026, with the event set to take place at Namboole on October 4. The marathon will bring together Ugandans from different backgrounds for a day of running, fitness and support for a life-saving cause. This year’s marathon has been dubbed #SaveAMother and will support the Mengo Hospital Blood Bank.
The campaign aims to help improve blood storage at the facility so that blood can be safely kept and made available for patients who require urgent transfusions.URSB is calling on its staff and members of the public to take part in the marathon and make their contribution to the cause. Participants will have the opportunity to choose from four different distances depending on their fitness levels and personal preference. The available distances are the full 42.2-kilometre marathon, the 21.1-kilometre half marathon, the 10-kilometre race and the 5-kilometre run. This means that both experienced runners and those who simply want to participate in the cause can find a suitable challenge. While running will be at the heart of the event, the bigger goal is to support efforts that can save lives.
Proper blood storage is an important part of healthcare because patients can require blood transfusions during emergencies, medical procedures and other serious conditions. The #SaveAMother campaign is therefore expected to draw attention to the importance of having reliable blood storage facilities. Supporting the Mengo Hospital Blood Bank will contribute to efforts to improve its capacity to safely store blood for patients in need.
The marathon will also form part of Uganda’s Independence celebrations, giving participants a chance to mark the occasion through sport, healthy living and community service. It is an opportunity for people to come together and support a cause that goes beyond the finish line.As October 4 approaches, URSB is ready to lace up and meet fellow runners at Namboole. Whether participants choose 42.2KM, 21.1KM, 10KM or 5KM, every step will be part of the wider #SaveAMother campaign.
