The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has taken top honours at the 32nd Uganda International Trade Fair after being named Best Sector Exhibitor, recognising its innovative approach to service delivery and its contribution to Uganda’s development. The award was announced during the Trade Fair, which is being held under the theme “Formalising Trade to Secure Uganda’s Economic Future.” The event has brought together government institutions, businesses and other stakeholders to showcase products, services and innovations contributing to the country’s economic transformation.

NWSC impressed visitors and organisers with an exhibition designed to demonstrate how access to safe water and improved sanitation can directly support communities and economic activity. Rather than simply displaying information, the Corporation turned its exhibition space into an interactive platform where visitors could learn about its services and the solutions being developed to meet the needs of Uganda’s growing urban population.

Among the major areas highlighted at the exhibition are water quality management, sewerage services and innovations aimed at extending safe water access to underserved communities. Through the Corporation’s Urban Pro-Poor initiative, residents living in informal settlements can access clean and safe water at just UGX 25 per 20-litre jerrycan, helping reduce the burden on low-income households.

The NWSC exhibition also attracted the attention of the Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, Hon. Sanjay Tanna, who visited the Corporation’s stall during the official opening of the Trade Fair. He was received by NWSC Senior Manager Public Relations, Ms. Vivien Newumbe, before touring the exhibition and engaging with the team.Hon. Tanna commended NWSC for its contribution to national development and highlighted the Corporation’s positive recognition, including appreciation of its work by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

He noted that Uganda has made considerable progress in expanding access to essential services such as safe water, compared to a time when many communities had limited access. The Minister also used the opening ceremony to underline Uganda’s ambition for accelerated economic growth under the Fourth National Development Plan.

He identified agro-processing, tourism, mining, and science, technology and innovation as key areas of growth, while stressing the importance of value addition, peace, the rule of law and a stable financial sector. For NWSC, the Best Sector Exhibitor award goes beyond recognition at the Trade Fair. It highlights the growing importance of water and sanitation to Uganda’s economic ambitions, as reliable water services support healthy communities, businesses, industries and urban development while creating the foundation for a more productive and inclusive economy.
