The Government of Uganda, through the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), is implementing a major water supply project aimed at improving the reliability of water in Mbarara City and surrounding communities.

The project involves the laying of a 12-inch water transmission main from Mbarara City towards the Kanyeganyege booster station. Once the water reaches the booster station, it will be pumped to the Nyampikye water tank for further distribution.

The new transmission line is expected to strengthen the movement of water within the system and help address challenges affecting reliable water supply in parts of Mbarara City and nearby areas.
Communities expected to benefit from the project include Bwizibwera, Kaguhanzya and Rubindi, together with other surrounding areas. Residents in these communities are expected to have improved access to a more reliable water supply once the works are completed.

According to NWSC, efforts are being made to complete the construction works and commission the new transmission line within two months. The target is to have the new infrastructure operational as soon as possible so that communities can begin benefiting from the improved water network.
The project is part of the Government’s wider efforts to strengthen water infrastructure and improve access to safe and reliable water services across the country.
NWSC has also appreciated the various stakeholders in Mbarara City who have participated in the planning process and supported the implementation of the project.

The corporation says continued cooperation between NWSC, local authorities, communities and other stakeholders remains important in ensuring that the project is successfully completed and delivers the expected improvements in water supply.
Once commissioned, the new transmission main is expected to play an important role in strengthening Mbarara City’s water network and supporting reliable supply to the growing population and surrounding communities.
