UCC Opens Fresh Opportunity For ICT Partners To Transform 100 Secondary Schools Across Uganda
The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has re-advertised a major opportunity for organisations with the required capacity to partner with the Commission in establishing ICT clubs in 100 secondary schools across Uganda. The programme is being implemented through the Uganda Communications Universal Service Access Fund (UCUSAF), building on UCC’s previous investment in computer laboratories in secondary schools.
The new initiative is intended to ensure that learners make meaningful use of the ICT facilities already provided in their schools.Under the programme, the successful partner will help schools establish functional ICT clubs with proper leadership structures, constitutions, work plans and records of activities. The clubs are expected to become platforms where students can regularly learn, practise and share knowledge in different areas of technology.Students will receive practical training in skills including coding, programming, website development, digital content creation, cybersecurity and computer maintenance.
The programme is designed to expose learners to useful digital skills that can support their education and prepare them for opportunities in an increasingly technology-driven economy.Beyond classroom training, participating students will be encouraged to use their knowledge to create practical digital solutions. These may include school websites, databases, mobile applications, digital instructional materials and other innovations designed to respond to challenges faced by their schools and surrounding communities. The initiative will also promote mentorship and collaboration by connecting students with ICT professionals, other schools and relevant industry players.
Through ICT competitions, peer learning and community outreach, the clubs are expected to give learners more opportunities to practise their skills and showcase their innovations.UCC says sustainability will be an important part of the project, with schools expected to put in place plans for maintaining ICT equipment, mobilising resources and integrating club activities into existing school programmes. Regular monitoring and reporting will also be used to track the progress of the initiative across the 100 schools.
