Stanbic Bank Backs Uganda’s Drive To Turn Mineral Wealth Into Major Investment Opportunities
Stanbic Bank has joined the Uganda Chamber of Energy and Minerals (UCEM) and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development in officially launching the 15th Annual Mineral Wealth Conference & Expo 2026, bringing renewed attention to Uganda’s largely untapped mineral potential.
The conference will be held under the theme “Beneath the Surface: Unlocking Africa’s Next Mining Powerhouse,” with stakeholders expected to explore how Africa, and Uganda in particular, can make better use of its mineral resources to drive investment and economic growth. The event will bring together government officials, investors, financial institutions and industry leaders to discuss opportunities within Uganda’s mining sector. It will provide a platform for stakeholders to share ideas, identify investment opportunities and examine what is needed to grow the industry. For Uganda, the conversation is increasingly shifting from simply discovering and extracting minerals to creating more value from them locally.
Stakeholders are expected to examine ways of strengthening mineral processing and value addition so that more benefits remain within the country.Stanbic Bank’s involvement also places the financial sector in the wider conversation about developing Uganda’s mineral industry. Mining projects often require significant capital, and stronger links between financiers, investors and mineral-sector players can help turn opportunities into actual projects. The conference will also create space for discussions on the role of technology, investment and partnerships in developing the minerals value chain. These areas can support more efficient mining operations while opening opportunities for businesses involved in processing, manufacturing and related services.
By bringing together both public and private-sector players, the conference seeks to encourage practical conversations around Uganda’s mineral wealth and the investments required to unlock its potential. The discussions are expected to cover opportunities stretching from exploration and extraction to processing and value addition. With Stanbic Bank, UCEM and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development supporting the launch, the 2026 Mineral Wealth Conference & Expo is set to provide an important platform for examining what lies beneath Uganda’s surface and how those resources can be transformed into investment, enterprise and broader economic opportunities.
