NWSC Takes Big Step To Improve Water Supply As 10-Million-Litre Reservoir Rises At Kanyanya Hill
The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) is pushing ahead with a major project expected to improve the reliability of water supply across Kampala and the surrounding areas. The Government of Uganda, through NWSC, is constructing a 10-million-litre water reservoir on top of Kanyanya Hill, in a development aimed at strengthening water storage and distribution within the Kampala Metropolitan Service Area. The reservoir is expected to help NWSC evacuate more water from the Katosi Water Treatment Plant and move it into the wider distribution network.
This will increase the Corporation’s ability to supply communities that are experiencing rising demand for clean and safe water.A number of areas in Wakiso District are expected to benefit from the project, including Bugembegembe, Kayunga, Wakiso Town, Kasengeje, Gombe, Mende, Nkoowe, Kasa Ngombe, Sala, Sanda Kavumba, Mpunga, Namasanga, Buyera, Muyomba, Kikokiro, Kapeke, Kiwazi, Kisimbiri, Kabowa, Najjemba, Nakasuga, Namusera, Kyoga and Banda. The improvement will also extend to communities served by the Kakiri and Gayaza branches. The project is part of ongoing efforts to expand and modernise Uganda’s urban water infrastructure as Kampala and Wakiso continue to grow rapidly. Once completed and put into operation, the Kanyanya Hill reservoir is expected to provide additional capacity that will help NWSC respond better to increasing water demand and improve the consistency of supply to thousands of residents and businesses. As construction continues, the focus now remains on completing the facility and integrating it into the existing water network. The project is expected to become an important part of NWSC’s efforts to deliver more reliable water services across the metropolitan area. Let NWSC show in the time.
