Kakumiro Set For Major Water Upgrade As NWSC Engineers Push Project Towards Tendering, Inspects Site
Kakumiro Area is edging closer to a major transformation in its water services after a technical team from the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) visited the area to advance preparations for a new water supply project. The development has raised expectations of better and more dependable water services for residents and other users in the area.
The NWSC Planning and Capital Development (P&CD) team conducted the field inspection to gather the final technical information required to complete the designs for the proposed Kakumiro Water Supply Project. The exercise is an important step towards preparing the project for the tendering process.During the visit, the officials moved to several sites earmarked for major project facilities. They inspected the proposed water intake, which is expected to form the starting point of the new water supply system and provide water that will later be treated and supplied to consumers. The team also assessed the proposed site for the water treatment plant, as well as locations for a booster station and reservoir.
These facilities are expected to work together to improve the production, pumping and storage of water before it is distributed to homes and other users.Additional field information was collected during the exercise to help engineers address technical requirements that may not have been captured during earlier planning stages. The information will be used to refine the final designs and complete the tender documents for the project. The proposed project comes in response to the persistent water supply challenges experienced in Kakumiro Area. Once implemented, the new infrastructure is expected to increase water production and improve the ability of the system to pump, store and distribute water more consistently.
The investment forms part of the Government of Uganda’s wider programme, implemented through NWSC, to strengthen water supply infrastructure in areas under its operation. The government is pursuing several improvement projects aimed at increasing capacity and making water services more reliable for communities.
With the latest site inspections completed, Kakumiro is now closer to seeing the proposed water project move from planning to procurement and eventually construction. The progress has renewed hopes that the long-standing water challenges in the area will be eased through a stronger and more reliable water supply system.
