URSB Takes Non-Individual Register Campaign to Karamoja, Engages Local Government Leaders
The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) has extended its stakeholder engagement campaign on the implementation of the Non-Individual Register (NIR) to the Karamoja Region as part of efforts to strengthen the registration and management of non-individual entities across Uganda. The engagement is being held at Hotel Africana Moroto, bringing together Chief Administrative Officers, Commercial Officers and District Community Development Officers from local governments across the Karamojong Region.
URSB officials are using the engagement to sensitise local government leaders about the Non-Individual Register and explain how the system is expected to improve the identification, registration and management of non-individual entities in Uganda. The NIR is designed to serve as a centralised register for non-individual entities operating in the country. It will provide a unified platform where information on such entities can be captured, organised and accessed.During the engagement, URSB is highlighting the important role of local governments in implementing the register, particularly in identifying relevant entities within their jurisdictions and ensuring that their information is incorporated into the system.
The initiative is expected to improve the availability and reliability of information on non-individual entities while addressing gaps caused by fragmented registration and record-management systems.URSB has emphasised that collaboration with local governments will be essential to the success of the NIR, given the close relationship districts have with communities, businesses, organisations and other entities operating at the local level. The Moroto engagement is part of URSB’s wider stakeholder outreach programme aimed at increasing awareness and securing support for the Non-Individual Register. The Bureau says the reform is expected to strengthen Uganda’s registration ecosystem, improve coordination and enhance the management of non-individual entities across the country
