Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) customs enforcement officers have intercepted a Fuso truck suspected of transporting smuggled cosmetics in Kiboga District, in an operation aimed at curbing illicit trade and protecting government revenue. The truck, registration number UBF 073B, was reportedly carrying the cosmetics concealed inside coffee husks, a method allegedly used to prevent the goods from being easily detected during transportation.

During the inspection, enforcement officers uncovered 78 cartons of Pawpaw Body Oil, with each bottle containing 60ml. They also found eight cartons of Princess Claire Body Lotion, with each bottle containing 250ml.The interception highlights the continued efforts by URA to monitor the movement of goods and identify traders attempting to bring or transport merchandise outside the established customs procedures.URA has warned traders that involvement in illicit trade can have serious financial consequences, including the loss of goods and other penalties arising from violations of customs requirements. The tax authority has urged businesses and individuals involved in the importation and distribution of goods to ensure that their consignments comply with customs regulations before they enter or move through the country.

According to URA, compliance is important not only for safeguarding government revenue but also for promoting fair competition among businesses. Traders who follow the law are less likely to face disruptions and financial losses associated with enforcement action. The Kiboga interception serves as another warning to traders engaged in the cosmetics business to use lawful channels and meet all customs obligations, as URA continues strengthening enforcement against smuggling and other forms of illicit trade.
