The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) has introduced an advanced parking management system at Entebbe International Airport, embracing artificial intelligence, modern camera technology and digital payments to improve efficiency and simplify access for motorists using the country’s main international gateway.

The new system is expected to modernise parking operations by making vehicle entry and exit smoother while reducing delays associated with the previous arrangement. The upgrade forms part of efforts to improve airport services through technology and provide motorists with a more convenient parking experience.

According to the details of the upgrade, the system runs on entervo V3, a next-generation parking management software developed by German technology company Scheidt & Bachmann. It is supported by modern Gen 40 hybrid machines designed to accommodate both traditional ticket-based parking and ticketless access.

One of the major improvements involves the use of camera technology to identify vehicles and facilitate parking operations. The development is expected to address some of the challenges that previously affected automatic number plate recognition, particularly when cameras struggled to read vehicle registration numbers accurately.
Under the previous arrangement, number plate recognition technology sometimes failed to verify vehicles whose registration plates were dirty, scratched or covered in mud. Such failures often required parking barriers to be reset manually, creating unnecessary delays and inconveniences for motorists entering or leaving the airport.

The introduction of the upgraded technology is expected to reduce dependence on manual intervention and improve the reliability of vehicle verification. By combining modern parking equipment with improved digital management, UCAA aims to create a more efficient system capable of handling airport parking demands while maintaining orderly vehicle movement.

Beyond vehicle identification, the upgrade also incorporates digital payment options, supporting efforts to make parking transactions more convenient. The combination of automated access and modern payment systems reflects a broader shift towards technology-driven service delivery at Entebbe International Airport.

UCAA has also addressed concerns regarding the security and privacy of information collected through the system. Luggya confirmed that the authority retains custodial rights over vehicle registration records, timestamps and payment logs, which are kept indefinitely in secure archives. The new system marks another step towards modernising airport operations, although its overall impact will depend on how effectively the technology performs in everyday use.
