The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has recognized the Uganda Security Printing Company (USPC) for its important contribution to the production of secure national identification documents in Uganda.USPC has a critical responsibility in the national identification process, supplying blank National ID cards that form an important part of the country’s identity documentation system.

According to NIRA, USPC’s work demonstrates the growing importance of having local capacity to produce sensitive documents whose security is essential to protecting citizens and maintaining the integrity of national records. The company’s investment in local security printing technology is helping Uganda build the capacity to produce identity and other security-sensitive documents within the country rather than depending entirely on external production. This local capacity also strengthens the country’s ability to maintain greater control over the production of important documents and support the security systems surrounding national identification.

USPC was among the institutions that participated in the #MyIdentityExpoAndSymposium26, where its work was showcased to citizens, government stakeholders and other participants. The event gave the public an opportunity to understand the technology and security architecture behind the physical National ID card, including the importance of the processes involved in producing secure identity documents.NIRA’s recognition of USPC underscores the company’s contribution to Uganda’s wider national identification system and the country’s efforts to strengthen secure, reliable and locally supported production of critical national documents.
