Queen Rebecca Amoding Rukidi has won widespread praise after impressing guests with her fluent Rutooro during the Tooro Ladies Open 2026.
The Queen, who is of Iteso origin, addressed guests in Rutooro during the event, demonstrating her growing connection with the people and culture of the Tooro Kingdom.

A video of her speech has since circulated widely online, with many Ugandans praising her effort to learn and speak the language of the kingdom she now represents.
In her message, Queen Rebecca expressed appreciation to the people for supporting her husband, King Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I, and for embracing the Tooro royal family.

“Our guests, how are you? I love you so much. Thank you for everything. Thank you for loving the king. Thank you for loving Tooro. Together with you we are on a journey and we are going somewhere,” she said.
Her delivery attracted particular attention, with some social media users describing her Rutooro as impressive and fluent.

The moment has also been seen as significant because Queen Rebecca comes from outside Tooro, a background that previously sparked public discussion about her position within the royal family.
The Babiito royal clan has, however, affirmed her position as Queen, explaining that her marriage to King Nyabongo entitles her to the role.

Rev. Fr. Dr. Charles Oyo, a spokesman for the Babiito royal clan, has said that Queen Rebecca does not need to join a Tooro clan for her marriage to the King to be recognised.
He has also explained that maternal clan identity remains important in matters concerning succession to the Tooro throne.
Queen Rebecca became Queen following the coronation of King Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I at Karuziika Palace on September 29, 2026.

Her appearance at the Tooro Ladies Open has now provided another public moment for the Queen to connect with the people of the kingdom.
Winnie Byanyima was among those who reacted to the video, expressing excitement about the Queen and her embrace of Tooro.
“I am so excited! I love the Queen of Tooro! Long live the Omukama,” Byanyima wrote.
The Queen’s Rutooro speech has continued to attract positive reactions, with many praising her for embracing the language, culture and people of Tooro.
