Equity Bank Uganda has launched a major school tree-planting campaign aimed at making schools across Uganda greener while encouraging young people to take part in environmental conservation. The Equity Green Schools Program was launched at Nakanyonyi Secondary School in partnership with My Tree Initiative Uganda.

Under the two-year program, Equity Bank plans to plant, protect and nurture 200,000 trees in schools across Uganda by December 2027.The campaign will start with 50,000 trees planted across 25 schools during the first year, with students expected to play an important role in caring for the trees.During the launch at Nakanyonyi Secondary School, 3,500 trees were planted, marking the start of the nationwide environmental campaign.

Equity Bank Uganda Managing Director Gift Shoko said the program is intended to create a lasting impact beyond the actual planting of trees.“This is more than a tree-planting initiative. It is a commitment to the future of our environment, our communities and, most importantly, the young people who will inherit the Uganda we build today,” Shoko said.Shoko said the trees planted at Nakanyonyi should become a living legacy of the launch and demonstrate what can be achieved when communities, schools and young people work together.

The program also seeks to give students practical opportunities to participate in environmental protection and help create healthier and more resilient communities.Equity Bank says the initiative is part of its broader sustainability agenda, linking environmental conservation with the long-term wellbeing and economic resilience of communities across Uganda.
