Uganda Airlines Expands West Africa Network with New Accra Flights
Uganda Airlines is set to expand its operations in West Africa with the launch of four weekly flights to Accra, Ghana, starting October 27, 2026, with the service expected to strengthen the carrier’s regional network. The flights will operate from Entebbe through Lagos, Nigeria, before continuing to Accra. Uganda Airlines will use a Boeing 737-800 wet-leased from Ethiopian Airlines for the new service as the national carrier manages pressure on its existing fleet.
The airline has already started marketing the new route in Ghana ahead of the launch. In partnership with the Uganda Tourism Board, Uganda Airlines held a marketing activation on Wednesday targeting travel trade players and the media as part of efforts to create awareness and stimulate demand for the service.Uganda Airlines says return fares on the Entebbe-Accra route will start at $550, providing travellers with a new connection between Uganda and Ghana through the Nigerian city of Lagos.
The expansion comes at a time when Uganda Airlines has been managing challenges linked to its relatively small fleet. In February, both of the airline’s Airbus A330-800neo aircraft were grounded for unscheduled maintenance, affecting some long-haul services, including flights to London and Mumbai. One of the Airbus A330 aircraft returned to service in April after spending several weeks on the ground. During the disruption, the airline relied on an Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 787-8 under a wet-lease arrangement to help cover some of the lost capacity.
Uganda Airlines later brought in Boeing 737-800 aircraft from Ethiopian Airlines under another wet-lease arrangement in May. The arrangement provides the aircraft together with crew, maintenance and insurance and has been used to support the airline’s regional operations and improve service reliability. The Accra launch adds to Uganda Airlines’ growing presence in West Africa, where it already operates services to Lagos and Abuja. The airline is also pursuing longer-term fleet expansion after signing an agreement with Boeing in June for 10 aircraft, including passenger and cargo planes, as it seeks to increase its capacity and expand its international network.
