Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has given State Minister for Local Government Justine Nameere seven days to apologise to him, warning that she could face unspecified consequences if she fails to do so.

In a post on his official X account on September 16, 2026, Gen Muhoozi said: “I’m giving Nameere exactly seven days to apologise to me. If she doesn’t, nothing will save her.” The deadline is expected to expire on September 23.

The dispute follows controversy over a video clip that appeared to show Nameere warning Gen Muhoozi against attacking NRM legislators. A longer version later circulated, reportedly showing that Nameere was addressing Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Secretary General Daudi Kabanda rather than Muhoozi.
Gen Muhoozi subsequently said Nameere could be removed from Cabinet if she was found to be misbehaving, adding that government could reshuffle ministers who fail to serve the interests of Ugandans.

Kabanda has also weighed in on the dispute, questioning the circumstances surrounding Nameere’s election as Masaka City Woman MP and calling for a by-election, although that claim remains contested.
The latest confrontation follows an earlier controversy involving another edited video in which Nameere was portrayed as discussing a celebration for former Speaker Anita Among.

Nameere later said the remarks had been taken from a longer recording in which she was encouraging young entrepreneurs to benefit from business opportunities during major political events.
Nameere has previously accused unnamed individuals of editing videos to create misunderstandings and damage relationships. She also said she has known Gen Muhoozi since their university days and through media and PLU mobilisation activities.
As the September 23 deadline approaches, attention is now on whether Nameere will respond to Gen Muhoozi’s demand and whether the dispute will escalate further.
