Entebbe International Airport recorded a total of 169,706 international passengers in August 2026, marking an increase in passenger traffic compared to the previous month. The figures show that the airport continued to handle thousands of travellers despite challenges affecting international travel.According to the August figures, the airport recorded 88,270 arrivals and 81,436 departures, bringing the total number of international passengers to 169,706.

This represents an average of approximately 5,474 passengers every day during the month. The August performance was an improvement from July 2026, when Entebbe International Airport handled 156,342 international passengers. The latest figures therefore show an increase of 13,364 passengers within one month, pointing to a rise in travel activity through Uganda’s main international airport.Despite the month-to-month increase, passenger traffic remained much lower than it was during the same period last year. In August 2025, the airport handled 239,329 international passengers, meaning that the August 2026 figure was lower by 69,623 passengers.

The drop comes despite July and August normally being a peak period for travel. Recent travel restrictions affected the movement of passengers and contributed to the lower numbers recorded this year compared to August 2025.Cargo operations also remained an important part of activity at the airport. In August, Entebbe handled 2,927 metric tonnes of exports and 1,766 metric tonnes of imports, bringing the total cargo handled during the month to 4,693 metric tonnes. However, cargo traffic also recorded a slight decline compared to July.

The airport handled 4,799 metric tonnes of cargo in July 2026, meaning that August recorded 106 metric tonnes less than the previous month. The latest figures show that Entebbe International Airport continues to play a major role in Uganda’s connectivity with other countries, supporting both passenger travel and the movement of goods. While passenger numbers improved in August compared to July, the significant gap from last year’s figures shows the continued effect of travel restrictions on international traffic.
