NWSC Reaffirms Commitment To Empowering Women In Water And Sanitation Leadership
The Managing Director of the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), Eng. Dr. Silver Mugisha, has pledged to support initiatives aimed at increasing women’s participation in leadership and decision-making within the water and sanitation sector.Dr. Mugisha made the remarks during the launch of the Empower Her Mentorship and Leadership Programme, an initiative developed by Professional Women for Water and Sanitation to support the growth of women professionals in the sector.
Speaking at the event, the NWSC Managing Director highlighted the important role women play in improving water and sanitation services, noting that their contributions have been vital to the development of the sector. He, however, stressed the need for more women to take up senior leadership positions.He said NWSC remains committed to creating an inclusive working environment where women can develop their skills, access opportunities, and actively participate in shaping the future of the water and sanitation industry.The Empower Her programme is designed to provide mentorship, leadership training, and professional networks for women working in the sector.
Through guidance from experienced professionals, participants will be equipped with skills to strengthen their confidence and prepare for greater responsibilities.Dr. Mugisha commended Professional Women for Water and Sanitation for introducing the programme, describing it as an important step toward promoting equality and expanding opportunities for women in leadership.He encouraged continued partnerships between institutions, professional organisations, and stakeholders to ensure that women receive the necessary support to succeed in their careers.The launch of the Empower Her Mentorship and Leadership Programme marks a significant milestone in efforts to strengthen women’s leadership in Uganda’s water and sanitation sector, with expectations that it will contribute to the emergence of more female leaders in the industry.
